Chairperson Rahjes opened the hearing on HCR 5026 and requested Cale Drumright, Legislative Fellow, Office of Revisor of Statutes, to review the resolution. (Attachment 1) There were no questions.
Allison Mazzei, President, Kansas Association of Broadcasters, spoke in favor of HCR 5026. (Attachment 2) She underscored the importance of AM radio as being the backbone of the National Emergency Alert System. Ms. Mazzei answered questions from Committee members.
Chairperson Rahjes shared with the Committee his years of work in the AM broadcasting business and explained the difference between AM and FM frequencies. He stated he hoped the Committee would support HCR 5026.
Providing backing for this resolution with written-only testimony was Claudia Hissong, on behalf of the Kansas Farm Bureau members. (Attachment 3)
There being no further testimony, Chairperson Rahjes thanked the conferees and closed the hearing on HCR 5026.
Chairperson Rahjes called for emergency final action on HCR 5026.
Representative Moser moved emergency final action on HCR 5026, seconded by Representative Roth. Motion passed.
Discussion ensued.
Representative Seiwert moved, seconded by Representative Schlingensiepen, to pass out favorably HCR 5026. Motion passed.
