Chairman Olson opened the hearing on SB 282 - Enacting the patient's right-to-know act; relating to disclosure of charge estimates and insurance coverage descriptions for healthcare services.

Chairman Olson called upon Senator Richard Hilderbrand. Senator Hilderbrand indicated that he did not plan to go into any great detail. He suggested that he offered both the bills in order to raise the awareness discussed in the two articles.

Chairman Olson called upon Tish Hollingsworth for opponent testimony. Ms. Hollingsworth went into great detail about the circumstances that face hospitals and why she requested that the committee not support this bill.

Chairman Olson called upon Rachel Colombo for further opponent testimony. Ms. Columbo cautioned that the bill could force some costly and burdensome hurdles to providing care and project inaccurate or false expectations regarding the cost of care.

Chairman Olson called Bill Sneed for additional opponent testimony. Mr. Sneed cautioned that such measures as called for in the bill could inadvertently increase the administrative burden on both providers and insurers at an increased cost to consumers and employers.
